My Daily Routine

This is a photo taken on my walk down Oxford street to and from work.
As you can see it's quite busy - and it's like this day and night. It's
just shy of two miles each way, but there are many cafes, pubs, and
shops to break things up. Plus I get my daily exercise and save about
five bucks a day avoiding tube transport.

No that's not my head in the foreground!

I thought they were getting rid of the double decker buses in the UK.....maybe that was just the Routemasters.

There are tons of the double deckers everywhere, but the Routemasters have been phased out, or been "pensioned" as they say here. The Routemasters had a big open back and you could jump on or off whenever the bus was not moving. They used to run up and down Oxford street, but no longer. On of my office mates said there are still parts of London that have Routemasters, but not for very much longer. Too unsafe and also you have to pay two city employees for each bus - one to drive and one to collect fares. Now its just one. -Hutch

Oxford Street has, in my experience, the busiest pedestrian traffic in all of London. Have you tried some of the side streets that aren't lined with Burberry and Aquascutum boutiques? Scott H.

When I was a kid I wanted to be a ticket conductor on a Routemaster. He had his ticket machine and his change dispenser.Seemed so glamorous. No 54 to town.Mind you the open back was not the safest especially after rain or a slushy snow.

Hi Scott. Yes, I have tried those side streets when things get a bit too hectic on Oxford. If I stay South of Oxford then I walk thru the Mayfair district, and if I cross Oxford and walk that way its thru Marylebone. Both are quite nice walks with much to look at.

I eventually cross Edgeware, which is lined with Indian and Middle Eastern restaurants, much to my delight.
